VI Agriculture & Food Fair

The Caribbean Green Technology Center was proud to be part of the Agriculture and Food Fair on St. Thomas in November, 2019 and the 49th annual St. Croix Agrifest in February, 2020. Our booth was located under the UVI tent and promoted education about renewable energy and sustainability. The CGTC booth included interactive displays which engaged people of all ages.

Renewable Energy Demonstrations

We had classroom demonstrations for renewable energy such as wind turbines, solar panels, music and light boards and wire and magnet generators.  This display showed how wind turbines convert kinetic energy to electricity whereas solar photo-voltaic directly convert light photons into electricity.

Solar + Battery System

We had a solar setup including two 30 W solar PV panels, a marine battery, charge controller and an inverter.  We then operated the booth using solar power for the majority of the event and allowed people to test it out by charging their cell phones.

Energy Fair Flyer

The VI Energy Fair will take place from 10 am to 4 pm on Saturday, April 4th, 2020 on St. Thomas at the UVI Sports and Fitness Center and on Saturday, April 25th, 2020 on St. Croix at the UVI Great Hall. This event will give you an opportunity to get all your questions answered on renewable energy, energy efficiency and sustainability. You will be able to talk with vendors, attend workshops, listen to expert panel discussions and a keynote speaker. There will also be food for sale, music and kid’s activities. The event is free to attend so we hope to see you there!

From Trash to ART

The idea of this project is to show an example of re-use of “trash” for art projects. As our focus is the environmental impacts of plastic, we used plastic bottle caps of various sizes and colors. Each person who stopped by the table glued on a bottle cap to the collage so that the final design was a macaw parrot. The bottle caps were donated by the Virgin Islands Children’s museum who receive their bottle caps via Recycling Saturdays at Plaza Extra. Thank you to the talented artist Chrissy McAllister for the design and to everyone who stopped by.
