The Caribbean Green Technology Center is part of the College of Science and Mathematics of the University of the Virgin Islands. We also aim to foster working relationships with fellow universities, government agencies and community organizations in order to promote goals of sustainability and resilience in the Territory.

Jeannine

Francis-Brown - Program Manager

Jeannine is a program manager at the University of the Virgin Islands responsible for the communications strategy and website development of the territorial Hazard Mitigation & Resilience Plan (HMRP) and coordinating grant management activities for the Caribbean Green Technology Center (CGTC).   

She is a native Virgin Islander who prior to joining the UVI team, gained industry experience spanning over 27 years in program management, strategic planning and implementation at Verizon.   

Jeannine has a Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification and a Black Belt in Lean Six Sigma.  She holds a Mini-MBA in Digital Marketing (Rutgers University), Master of Arts in Business Education (New York University), and a Bachelor of Science in Economics (Wagner College). With many years of experience in improving business performance in the private sector under her belt, Jeannine has returned “home” to the U.S. Virgin Islands to assist in building capacity in the territory’s Road to Resilience.

 
 

Greg Guannel

- Director

Greg is a coastal, ocean and civil engineer. Prior to joining UVI, Greg was The Nature Conservancy’s (TNC) Director of Urban Program for the state of Florida, where he worked with various stakeholders to implement climate adaptation strategies that promote community building and the use of green infrastructure. He was also a Post-Doctoral Fellow, then Research Associate, with the Natural Capital Project, housed at Stanford University, where he developed a series of decision support tools for resource-poor communities to better understand coastal risk, but also investigate the potential for investment in green infrastructure to reduce risk. Greg started his career as a coastal engineer at Anchor QEA, where he designed structures that reduced exposure to hazardous material. Greg holds a Phd in Civil Engineering from Oregon State University, a Masters degree in Ocean Engineering from Texas A&M University, and a Masters degree in Public Works from the Ecole Superieure des Travaux Publics (Paris).

Nikita BecK -

Research Technician

Nikita Beck is handling many of the analysis done at the Center. She attained her Bachelor of Science in Marine Biology with a minor in Data Science from the University of the Virgin Islands.  

She is a native Virgin Islander, hailing from St. Croix, with goals of improving the resilience and sustainability of the islands.
