Community Empowerment

CGTC has partnered with Northeastern University to host two workshops in early April, bringing all three communities together for co-learning, but with a slightly different approach.

Workshop 1 – Messaging, Communication and making the case:

The first session set the foundation for the current understanding of how our identified communities, Estates Pearl, New Herrnhut and Bovoni, are currently organized. One of the ultimate goals of this project is creating materials to communicate what its like to live in these communities and these sessions were focused on identifying the target audiences and priority areas. Each community also brainstormed issues both major and minor that plague their neighborhood which serves as the framework which all other sessions and materials will be focused on.

Workshop 2 – Community organizing & learning from each other:

Workshop 2 is where the project truly started. Each neighborhood explored what it takes to effectively organize the residents in a community and see what t would look like for them. While the first session had each community meeting independently, this session had all communities come together and share their stories of previous successful and unsuccessful organization attempts. Having residents of the community coming together served the additional benefit of building relationships amongst residents, having them together in one space with a common goal.
