Community Empowerment

CGTC has partnered with Northeastern University to host two workshops in early April, bringing all three communities together for co-learning, but with a slightly different approach.

Workshop 1 – Messaging, Communication and making the case:

This session would be more practical and focused on documentation and communication, especially relevant for New Herrnhut (but Bovoni/Estate Pearl attending too). The idea is to work through questions like: who is your audience, how do you tell your story to people outside your community, what kinds of details and evidence matter, and what formats (photos, letters, fact sheets, story maps, etc.) help make a compelling case to the government and others stakeholders. This could include small-group exercises on describing an issue and thinking through what and how to document.

Workshop 2 – Community organizing & learning from each other:

This session would be more on community organization, particularly relevant for Bovoni. The goal would be to explore what it takes to organize effectively and what is possible, using examples from Estate Pearl(EP) and New Herrnhut(NH). We were thinking this could be a collaborative session or community teaching where  EP can share lessons with Bovoni, and where Bovoni can start to see a possible path forward. It could also help strengthen relationships across communities beyond the life of this project.

Lastly, beyond the project CGTC will continue to help the communities develop their StoryMap.
