Extreme heat presents unique challenges for island communities, where climate, infrastructure, and geography shape both heat exposure and response. Addressing these challenges requires locally relevant data, strong community partnerships, and sustained collaboration among researchers, practitioners, and decision-makers.

This webinar will highlight NOAA-supported research and partnerships that are advancing extreme heat preparedness across Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Speakers will share insights on:

• how multi-sector partnerships are strengthening regional capacity to prepare for and respond to extreme heat

• how indoor heat monitoring is improving understanding of heat exposure and informing community adaptation strategies in the U.S. Virgin Islands

• how an urban heat island mapping campaign generated locally relevant data to support planning, outreach, and heat preparedness in Puerto Rico
