Engineering for Disaster in the Caribbean (HMRP)

  • US Virgin Islands (map)

Tomorrow's infrastructure, houses, buildings and new construction must be resilient to the impacts caused by hurricanes, earthquakes, rising seas, and other disasters.

In this webinar, we will hear from experts, Dr. David Smith and Esteban L. Biondi, about the work they have done over the past 20 years in the Caribbean and Latin America to make coastal infrastructure more resilient and adaptable to the risks of tomorrow.

They will share success stories and provide insight on building in the 21st century Caribbean. Also to be addressed are regulatory and practical barriers to ensuring new infrastructure investments withstand the impacts of existing and future hazards.

Hosted by the University of the Virgin Islands Hazard Mitigation & Resilience Planning team.

Moderated by Dr. Greg Guannel
